Monica works as the manager of Mimpi Resort in Tulamben, Bali, which gives her an unfair advantage as she has daily access to great dive sites! She is a wonderful example of how hard work and determination can pay off. When she first started shooting she was a real amateur to the world of underwater photography. But her artistic eye quickly shone through. As a relatively inexperienced diver, in late 2005 she buddied up with Erwin Kodiat and his love of nudibranchs rubbed off on her. She had never expected that she would become interested in underwater photography, but encouraged by the Underwater Photographs Forum, she started to take underwater photos in mid 2006. She credits the comments and criticisms from the forum with helping her to improve her skill. Monica is particularly interested in macro, especially nudibranchs. Their beauty, form and color keep her looking for more! While she is still developing her skills, and sometimes finds it is quite hard to take good underwater photographs, she aims to share Indonesia’s underwater beauty and always shoots with her heart. Monica recently attended an underwater photography contest in Raja Ampat, she was surprised to beat out the big cameras and take home first prize for macro!
