Michel Clareboudt was born in Belgium in 1958. He has an engineering degree in Agronomy and a Doctorate in Marine Ecology from the : Free University of Brussels (ULB). He has studied coral reefs and the ecology of reef corals first in Papua New Guinea, then in southern Japan (Okinawa). He arrived in the Sultanate of Oman in 1997 and in addition to ongoing research on the ecology and biology of corals and other reef invertebrates, teaches marine ecology, invertebrate zoology and marine pollution at Sultan Qaboos University. He has authored numerous scientific publications (>60), described 4 new species of corals (two of which are from Oman) and continues an active academic career in marine ecology.
